Thanks to a $100 MBS voucher, we decided to go to a restaurant which we normally won’t consider and that is Yardbird. Yardbird originated from the United States and it offers American Southern cuisine. It is in turn managed by 50 Eggs Hospitality which is “focused on developing iconic brands powered by an engaging company culture and defined by world-class service within the hospitality and entertainment industries.”
Yardbird is located at Marina Bay Sands in basement 2 right at the end of the building. The decoration feels akin to industrial style with plenty of warm light which gives off the comforting feeling. The restaurant also offers private dining spaces for birthday parties or just a cozy private dinner.
We ordered a chef’s set which consisted of a salad, main and dessert. Additionally, we got smoked ribs to round up the food. Yardbird is well know for their chicken and we found that rightly so when we ordered Chicken ‘n’ Watermelon ‘n’ Wafers as the main for the chef’s set and The Wedge for salad
The chicken was fried crispy enough without being too tough and it was served in a chicken like cage (the kind where it’s used to store eggs). Wafer was soft and fluffy enough. It’s a pretty good balance between being chewy and yet not soggy and lastly the watermelons were spicy which turned out to be the weakest link. We concluded that spicy watermelon is a weird and unwanted combination.
Accompanying the chicken was the Smoke Pork Ribs. We were amused by it was presented; the smoke was contained using a bowl covering the ribs and it arrived on our table in that manner. After the staff placed the dish on our table, she lifted off the lid and smoke just float away from the ribs. Definitely high points for the magical effect!
The meat was so tender that it fell off the bone so effortlessly. The meat soaked in the flavours of the smoke which added a layer of flavour to the meat.
It was a Wednesday evening and there was a 1-for-1 ladies night cocktail promotion going on.
More than halfway through the meal and we found ourselves full. The portions were generous and the price was slightly higher than other casual restaurant. Justifiably, the quality of the food was of a high standard.
